Beggar Man

We saw this beggar man downtown the other day. Here he's crossing himself and praying. :(

Asuri

Asuri is the smartest little girl in Tabernaculo de Victoria. She gets up every Sunday and recites whole chapters of the Bible. She astounds us!! She has shown that she is not nervous at all about getting up in front of  the church. Last Sunday I asked her when she is going to sing a special and she replied in her cute, high-pitched voice, "Cuando usted quiera, hermana!" (Whenever I want her to :)

I asked her what her favorite song was and she named a chorus we sing in church. I handed her a microphone and played for her while she sang the whole song through! I told her, "Girl, you are singing next Sunday!"

So this past Sunday she got up in front of our packed-out church and sang El Señor es Mi Pastor. The Lord is My Shepherd. She did wonderful! 

We might have a new praise-singer :))

Rodeo

Last week we went to our first Mexican rodeo. It was quite the exciting experience!

One minute we were cheering and having a great time, and the next we were all cringing.

We actually took about 5,000 picture but about 3 of them turned out. Here are a few of them!

Here is a cowboy riding a wild horse.
After the horse got tired of bucking, the guy would jump off and the rest of the cowboys would tried to rope him. They were not very talented in this area. :-/
They also roped little bulls. After they lassoed its legs, they would make it trip and fall. (It was the most pitiful thing). They even broke one bull's leg. :'(
They were pulling tails, using a cattle prod...it was just cruel! But if you think about cowboys in the old days...this is how they probably worked. (Minus the cattle prod--ha!)

We were having a pretty nice time until this man behind us started upchucking!!!!!! (He was a bit drunk).

You can see the people around him leaving, and the expression on the man's face on the left. HA!

There were ladies all dressed up in traditional Mexican garb.

They did all kinds of twirls and jumps on their horses. It was so neat!

After the show, we walked around in the cowboy fair. Everything was so expensive! 

This saddle costed $280,000 pesos!!!! (About 21,000 dollars, according to Google.) 

A little over-priced?

Through all of this, I got inspired about what I want to be when I grow up. It's the only option. The obvious option. 

In the ministry + Cowgirl = Circuit Rider!

A Really Big Number, That's How Many

A little while back, Nicole and I were at home just piddling around. It was a beautiful day so I had the front door open to let the breeze in. Beau was coming in and out, Austin was playing outside. 

All of a sudden I started getting dive bombed by flies. I am not scared of flies, but when I looked up at the ceiling, I could do nothing but scream. The ceiling was absolutely covered with flies! I looked outside and the sky had filled with dark clouds. I guess the flies were looking for shelter. 

Nicole grabbed the Raid, I found a fly swatter, and we got busy!

Flies started falling like rain. Imagine the classic scene of playing in the rain, only instead of rain--flies. 

After this, we swept them up and counted them...

 ...Would you like to know how many we killed?

302 plus one mosquito eater!!!!!!!

Nicole was too embarrassed to post about this at the time. I, on the other hand, feel nothing but pride. I mean, here we are alive, fly-free, and not a hint Typhoid fever, Dengue, or Malaria in us!

So thank you to Dacia for posting about subject #5 on her blog. She set me at liberty and inspired this post.

Happy Birthday Abner!

This past Saturday we celebrated Abner's 15th birthday! We love him and are all so proud of him and of how far he has come! He has grown so much just in the past few years-- In every way, but in height mostly... haha :))

His mom asked me to make a cake for this momentous occasion... and of course it had to be *special* since this was his "Quincenera"!

When Tia Hayde asked me to make his birthday cake, immediately my brain started going a million miles an hour... I had visions of  guy things-- football, blue, green, soccer, sports cars...

Which explains the end result of his cake :D

This was my idea, BUT Tia Hayde loved it! So the blame is not all mine!

Here we are on our way to the party... It was a bit of work trying to get the cake there in one piece. The potholes are a nightmare here.

All Abner could do when I walked in with the cake was laugh! :))

But not alone... Soo me the only other "daredevil" (yeah right lol) in the group, went up on the roof with him.

Atlixco

This past weekend, Nicole and I went to stay the weekend at our grandparent's house.

As usual, we had a good time! I always sleep sooo well when I'm there, it's like magic!

Of course we ate the most delicious food while we were there because Sis. Wakefield is the best chef and always makes American food!

One of the nights we were there, we went up on the roof to have a little fun...

We planked off the second story roof ledge.

We did it again the next day for a better picture.

Saturday morning we went out to a little town here called Atlixco.

They have huge gardens there and sell all kinds of plants.

On our way there we saw a bird "stand".

On our way back, we stopped again at the bird stand and I bought a cockatiel!

Here she is!

She is pretty much a little brat and hisses and bites if you even look at her, but soon she will be a cuddly lil thing. (I hope :)
