Rewinding to one year ago - August 2017...
I'd just found out we wouldn't be continuing with another
year of school. I'd abruptly lost what had been the focal point of my life for
the past 5 years. I felt disoriented, but not necessarily disappointed. It'd been a difficult year up until this point anyways. I was
tired...ready for change. I did a lot of crying, praying, and more cryingThe Wakefields: Missionaries to Mexicohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06866236394391728742noreply@blogger.com27tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7657485760377565598.post-8524218122412493692018-08-17T10:36:00.001-07:002018-08-17T13:44:34.153-07:00Nine Years!
Guys!!! This blows my mind! It's the blog's 9 year anniversary today!
YAYYYYYYY!!!
Awwwwwwww! Happy birthday, little bloggie! How I love you. You are my online brain. Sometimes I can't remember the name of a place we went to or am looking for a picture from such and such service when Bro. So and So was here...ya'll. I just google it. And ta-da!! There it is. This post is about my grandparents. I've been collecting pictures and screenshots for a while!
I spent a week with them. It is always a wonderful, relaxing time! While there, I visited my friend, Lucy. She goes to their church and we commiserate over bookkeeping whenever we are together and she teaches me new things having to do with that.

I came home from school and my little neighbor kids were out on the front porch playing ball. I noticed that Edgar and I had on the same shoes. :)
Me and Ximena
Edgar had English homework one day so he came over and did it at my house so I could help him.
Ximena wasn't about to miss out on the fun so I pulled a coloring book out for her.

I got this reminder on my phone the other day. I made this note one day when Nicole and I were teaching school and discussing her upcoming move. (When she was dating Johnny and possibly moving to Idaho.)
She was talking about not being in Mexico for the next blog anniversary and I replied, "Well you never blog anyways so that is pretty fitting!"
She was there when I put this in my The Wakefields: Missionaries to Mexicohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06866236394391728742noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7657485760377565598.post-31178022146937275942018-01-07T20:16:00.000-08:002018-01-07T20:16:05.315-08:00Ginger Almost Killed Us All
A few months ago, I heard some crazy barking up on my roof. It was Ginger, my neighbor's dog, and she was going nuts. My neighbors were gone so if Ginger was to be quieted, I was going to have to do it.
I went upstairs to the roof and found her all tangled up in the washboard stand. Sigh.
Why someone would get a dog just to tie it up on the roof, I do not know.

I have a little church update, some random pictures of what's been going on in the past few months, and new developments.
Sis. Marisol is consistently playing in church now!
Sara is also playing and singing in church!
Sis. Bella took drum lessons and should be starting to play in church very soon...

Lately we've been going to the center of town and evangelizing. Dad and Valentin go on their own a lot and pray for sick people and beggars, talk with street vendors and people selling stuff. On the weekend, the church people go out to different places around the city to invite people to church and to tell them about Jesus. This year Elder Wakefield has traveled to Mexico City each Monday evening to teach a Bible class at Pastor Isai's church. The Bible class focused on how to study the Bible.
Sometime he'd go alone, but most of the time Sis Wakefield would accompany him or the Garcia family. I also was able to go a few times when I had school off.

Emphasis on the surprise.
The other day I was making frozen watermelon bolis (kind of like a popsicle but in a little baggie). I'd taken the lid off the blender and was trying to scoot it back when...whoopsies. I bumped the lever. Talk about SHOCKING!
Watermelon juice went everywhere and into the air....

This summer we took a trip to California. There was nothing unusual in that, but this time we ended up going all over the place, doing all kinds of things. We had a wonderful time!
One of the main reasons for this trip was that I had to get my passport renewed. Do get this done quickly, we went straight to the embassy in San Fransisco.

We had some pretty crazy weather back in August and September. Those months are our rainy season anyway, but we had a couple weeks where the sun did not peek through one bit. It was miserable! Of course this does not compare to what Texas and Florida went through. What they went through is on a different level completely. We said many many prayers for our friends affected by the hurricanes!

I got on a kick of taking Elissa to the park this past spring and summer. I never blogged it because there was always one more park date around the corner which meant more cute pictures to add to this ever-growing post.
For now, our little outings have ended so now I can record the fun we had.

On the day of my birthday, we rode the new train in town to a nearby town called Cholula. I've only ridden the train at Pike's Peak so this mode of transportation is still a novelty to me. I think they are
so fun!
We arrived in Cholula and immediately walked over to the place we'd be eating dinner at.

Friday morning Nicole and I went to the market for breakfast and to pick up a few things.
Nicole got a quesadilla...
Cheese, meat, onion, mushrooms and green salsa.
I got what we call a "gordita". It's a bean-filled tortilla with salsa and cheese on top. I opted for some meat sprinkled on top as well.
Later on, we went out with my grandparents for lunch. One of the days Nicole was here, we went to the Ex-Hacienda de Chautla. It is this beautiful European-looking manor on a lake. I never knew something so beautiful existed in Puebla until just a few months ago. This is what you see when you walk in the entrance -
A dirt pathway and cabins scattered here and there.

The next morning after Nicole arrived, I woke up to an empty house. Nicole had gone to my parents. This is what she did pretty much every morning. It was like a DEFAX situation. They get her mornings, I get her nights, and we share her in the daytime.
The night before, Nicole had given me a wonderful early birthday present - a caramel apple from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I had a birthday earlier this month. In the weeks leading up to it, I'd been getting these wonderful and annoying emails from Bath and Body Works...if you know me, you know I have a deep affection for candles... I sent Nicole a screenshot of my pretend order and captioned it with "That moment when I wanna buy stuff online but you no come and visit." She replied and said they wanted to visit for The Wakefields: Missionaries to Mexicohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06866236394391728742noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7657485760377565598.post-83245833024729786742017-10-04T20:34:00.000-07:002017-10-04T20:34:12.630-07:00Flautas
As I mentioned in my last post, Austin has been going to physical therapy twice a week. His sessions are always around 4 o'clock which makes a great dinnertime. Across the street from the therapy office is a restaurant called Flautlan.
They specialize in all things "Flauta". A flauta is similar to a big taquito. A tortilla stuffed with some kind of goodness and salsa on top.

Here's an update and Austin...and the ever-growing Wakefield family!
As you all know, Austin broke his leg back in March. He had surgery done on it here, but it was later discovered that the bones were not lined up and therefore not healing correctly. He went to the US and had it re-broken and operated on again.
Austin has never done so much sitting around in one year. Today we went to the grand opening of a mall here in town called Parque Puebla. We have been so excited about this mall because the company that built this place also built several super fancy plazas in Mexico City. These plazas include places like Olive Garden, Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Applebee's, Krispy Kreme, Carl's Jr, California Pizza Kitchen, Panda Express, Chili's, Dairy QueenThe Wakefields: Missionaries to Mexicohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06866236394391728742noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7657485760377565598.post-78867875638006181312017-09-25T08:21:00.000-07:002017-09-26T08:08:47.565-07:00Quake Update
It's been almost a week since the big earthquake. I thought I'd get on here and give a quick update about what is going on down here. Elder and Sis Wakefield were in the air on their way to NYC when the quake hit so they've missed out on all the upheaval. My grandma asked me yesterday if everyone is in a panic and I said no, not really. My family is pretty calm. I'd like to say first - thank you to everyone that has showed their concern for our family and churches here in Mexico in the last 24 hours. It has meant a great deal to me and my family. We had the first earthquake about 12 days ago. The epicenter was in Chiapas, Mexico which is about 8 hours south of us. We definitely felt that quake but it wasn't too bad.
